Author: Frogg
Beta: Silentflux

Rating: FRAO
Disclaimer: I don't own them. Damnit.
Warnings: Uh. borderline crack!fic? Spoilers for Transformers (2007)
Author's Note: Sorry this is late (and still being written). My muse decided it wasn't going to cooperate with the PWP bunny and smacked me with some plot and character development instead. Also, this is set about six months post-movie, and early in the next school year.
Part 1
Part 2

Sam flew down the hallways, anticipation and exhileration giving him the same speed that adrenaline, fear and courage had in battle.  A teacher he didn't know called out for him to stop; he ignored her and rounded the corner, dodging someone at their locker to slip through the door into his classroom.

The bell rang scant moments after he took his seat.

"Thank you for joining us, Mister Witwicky."  Mrs. Parsons eyed him balefully over the rim of her glasses.

Sam nodded and made a show of getting out his notebook and a pencil.  Once the teacher had turned to the board, Mikaela nudged him with her elbow, giving him a questioning look.  He scribbled something in his notebook and tilted it so she could read, then whispered, "Later."

Mikaela glanced at the paper and smiled.

Grinning inwardly, Sam turned the page, hiding the words 'inactive software' from view.

Sam's good humor was infectious, and had Mikaela laughing for no reason at all as they raced to the parking lot.  She wasn't surprised when he pinned her against Bumblebee's side, turning her around to kiss her breathless before opening the passenger door.

Once they were both in the car, Sam calmed down some, sensing Bumblebee's confusion.  "Hey, I'm okay, I'm fine.  I wasn't upset with you, promise.  I was just...mad at the situation, that's all.  Okay?"  He reached forward, rubbing the dashboard soothingly.

Bumblebee gave a questioning hum, his uncertainty with the change in Sam's mood all too obvious in the lack of music and the way he let Sam keep control of the Camaro as they merged into after-school traffic.

Sam sighed.  "Bumblebee, it's not you.  Honest.  I was angry because all you know is how to be a soldier, and there's way too much other stuff for you to be missing out on it."  He let the steering wheel slide beneath his hands.  "But that just means I get to show you."

Mikaela watched, amused, awed and a little envious.  Sam could understand more from a hum or squeak out of Bumblebee than the techs could from ten minutes of halting, too-formal speech.

Apparently Sam'd understood this time, too, because Bumblebee revved the engine and spun the radio dial.

Laughter rang out, then loud, slightly off-key singing.

I used to think maybe you loved me now baby I'm sure
And I just cant wait till the day when you knock on my door
Now everytime I go for the mailbox, gotta hold myself down
'Cause I just wait till you write me you're coming around

I'm walking on sunshine, woooah
I'm walking on sunshine, woooah
I'm walking on sunshine, woooah
and don't it feel good!!

"So what's this about inactive software?" Mikaela asked once they were behind closed doors.

Sam shrugged, helping himself to a can of soda from the fridge.  "Ratchet said that once the war got going, they pretty much had to give up anything that wasn't necessary to fight.  And Bumblebee wasn't built until long after that, until just before the Cube was lost," he added, popping the tab on his Coke.

"Wait.  They turned it off?!"

"Actually, in Bumblebee's case?  They never turned it on," Sam muttered darkly, then tipped the can and took a long swallow.

Mikaela stared blankly.  "And they didn't tell him, either."

Sam shook his head, lips tight.

"But the war's over.  At least, here, and they aren't about to go back into outerspace, this is their home now."  Mikaela drummed her fingernails on the counter.  "Ok, so maybe Prime and Ratchet and Ironhide are happy not having to deal with all of that, but Bumblebee's apparently too young to know the difference.  And they aren't even giving him the choice?  Why?"

"Because I'm in love with you."

Blindsided, Mikaela started to say something, then stopped, her mouth opening and closing silently.

"I'm in love with you," Sam said again.  "Bumblebee's in love with me."

"But...wait."  Mikaela's eyes narrowed.  "They don't.  They don't realize that we're--"

"--both in love with Bumblebee," Sam finished, shaking his head again.  He watched, taking small sips of his soda, as Mikaela absorbed the information, subconsciously shifting her weight onto a stool.

"Please tell me that assumption was only because they learned about human culture on the Web, and humans normally...well..."

"That would be my guess, from what Ratchet said, but since when did 'normal' involve sentient alien robots?"  Sam's mouth twisted in a smirk.

Mikaela laughed humorlessly.  "Or teenage diplomats?"  She shared a knowing look with Sam.  "So what now?  Is Ratchet going to fix it?"

"Huh-uh."  Sam shook his head, then polished off the last few swallows of Coke before setting the can down with a hollow thunk.  "I'm going to.  Ratchet told me how."  Frowning, he rubbed his forehead.  "Nobody knows how Bumblebee's going to react though."

"Take him out to the base.  Ask Lennox for somewhere really private that can get shot up if Bumblebee gets mad."

Sam nodded.  "Yeah, Ratchet thinks Bumblebee's going to be really pissed, at least at first.  That's one of the reasons why he's letting me do it, so Bumblebee won't have to deal with the guilt of taking it out on the rest of them.  It wasn't their choice, either, most of it, and they were just trying to protect him."

"I think things are going to be pretty rough for them no matter what, but he'll get over it."  Mikaela glanced down at the counter, rubbing the smooth surface with her thumb before meeting Sam's eyes again.  "Listen, I know...this is supposed to be about...the three of us, but," and she glanced away, licking her lips.  "He was yours first, and I want him to have--I don't want to get in the way, if that's not what he wants."

"Mik, no, that's--"

"Sam."  Tears filmed her eyes, but didn't fall.  "I don't know how I'll feel if Bumblebee only...wants you.  I'd like to be able to say I'd share you with him, but...This first time, I want the two of you to--"  Unable to articulate further, Mikaela shook her head, her hair falling forward to hide her face.

"Mik."  Sam reached over the counter, cupping her chin and gently forcing her to look at him.  "That's...very generous of you.  I don't...I don't know what to say."

She gave him a watery smile.  "You don't have to say anything.  I know you want him, I can feel it sometimes when we're making love."  She giggled at Sam's shocked expression, at the blush on his cheeks.  "It took you long enough to figure it out!"

"Eh, you know, normal and alien robots?"  Sam cleared his throat, rubbing his nose in embarrassment.

"Mmm-hmm."  Mikaela smiled and slid off of her stool, rounding the counter to give him a hug and a sweet, soft kiss.  "Come on, Dad said he had picnic stuff ready for us and all we have to do is pack the cooler.  Bumblebee's waiting."

A surge of anticipation and arousal washed over Sam, making him bite his lip before turning back to the refrigerator.  He could only wonder how this new awareness would change things.
