What really bothers me, I think, with the changeover from Gideon to whoever Joe's playing (I forget the name), is that:

A) Gideon's partnership with and balance to Hotch is so integral to the team chemistry you KNOW the new/old guy's going to be like dropping a depth charge. Everything you know is going to change, and we don't know how. I started watching a half dozen other cop-type shows (CSI, CSINY, Shark, Cold Case, Without a Trace, etc.) around the same time I started watching CM (Superbowl weekend! Yay, I picked it up right when Reid got kidnapped. Joy). I haven't been able to keep my interest in any of them, and it's probably due to the lack of partnership/balance in any of them.

B) Joe's character, at least what I've read about, doesn't impress me. There's a lot there for me NOT to like. I'd like to say I'll give it a fair shot, but my muse is so not not not happy with it. And historically, any show I'm not attacked by rabid plotbunnies that breed like tribbles, I lose interest in. Not good.

C) Joe Montegna doesn't do a damn thing for me, visually. Mandy isn't uh. attractive to me, as per the discussion going on currently on the master-apprentice list, but he had a certain something that fit well visually with the rest of the team. I dunno. He just doesn't fit.

D) If Gideon does go through with it, do you really think that the rest of the team is going to be emotionally sound enough to keep working? Come ON. Even the threat might be enough to yank the rug out from under Reid - I'm still convinced we haven't seen the end of what Tobias did to him, and the drug storyline.

Just my two cents.
