Gideon isn't a must-have on the show for me. I never felt like he had to be replaced - there wasn't this impending doom 'piece missing' sense in the handful of episodes between his departure and Rossi's arrival. (Children of the Dark and 7 seconds are both on my top ten list, fyi.) It's just that Rossi is an emotional vaccuum for me.

Aside from the one scene in that episode with the twins I can never remember the name of (because it wasn't one of my favorites), Elle was never a must-have, either.
