Hotch could feel chilled skin against his own, frighteningly cold all the way from neck to waist, and worse down his legs. Despite being past the hypothermic stages, Morgan was still cold; he had Reid curled up against his chest, and Hotch plastered to his back. The nest of blankets Reid had made in the back of the Humvee seemed hot as a sauna.
"Thanks." Morgan's voice was raspy, a struggle to get even that much out. And quiet, in deference to Reid's exhausted slumber.
Shifting slightly, Hotch raised his head, trying to look Morgan in the eye. "For what?"
Morgan rolled his neck, looking at Hotch from one eye. "For keeping your promise."
Hotch smiled. "What are friends for?"
Reid stirred on Morgan's other side, grunting in protest at the noise before settling with an irritated sigh.
Casting Hotch an apologetic look, Morgan turned back to Reid and pressed a kiss to the younger man's temple.
Eyes watering a little at that small intimacy, Hotch settled back down to watch over the pair, listen to the blizzard outside, and remember.
