Poetry: The Scream
Jun. 24th, 2007 10:09 amI wrote this back in high school; outside of a piece that was actually part of another fanfic, this is the last piece of poetry I wrote. I've been searching for it for the last, oh, I don't know, 8 years? I wrote it on a school computer and printed myself one copy - bad idea. BAD idea. But I'm really proud of it. I really like it.
And somehow it's rather appropriate to Criminal Minds.::stare::
eyes stare
accusing
hiding in the lights
blinding
from the someone running away
away
away from the smell of ether
and the bottles of blood
the too-sterile tile walls
and the fallen shoe
abandoned
left to endure
the hypodermic needles
resting with the knives and scissors
waiting for the hiss of the door
to announce yet another victim
another pair of pain-glazed eyes
desperate for a familiar face
a reassuring touch
but finding only signs of pain
bloody bandages
peering out of the trash can
crutches leaning against
the wheeled stretcher along the wall
the iv tree with leftovers
from another time
searching eyes cut off
by the white cloth screen
with its neat cigarette hole
from whoever ignored
the "danger, do not smoke" sign
a hand reaching out
grasping the surreal security of
a disposable plastic glove
holding no warmth
and turning instead to
the red wall phone
with its blinking white lights
despairing that the caller will listen to
the Scream

Date: 2007-06-25 07:56 am (UTC)Wow. I'm usually not a big fan of poetry (even though I attempted it in my younger years), but this was excellent. Amazing descriptions - I think my favourite was the 'IV tree'. They do look like that, eh?
Spelling mistake: despairing (?) in the second to last line. Excuse me if you turn out to be correct; my own grasp of the English language is shot after 10 or so months in Europe. :)

Date: 2007-06-25 09:55 am (UTC)Thanks! This was the result of an assignment where we were given a list of like, 50 words, and we had to use 20 of them in a poem or short story or something. I don't recall what words, or have the list anymore, but this is what I came up with.
Thanks for pointing it out -- I typed this up really quickly and missed that typo.
